This online degree is broken up into three stages. The first, focuses on the cornerstones of good storytelling, further honing your reflective and analytical skills. 

You’ll learn the art of crafting immersive worlds and shaping dynamic character arcs, empowering you to connect with diverse audiences and learn to ‘read as a writer’ by developing effective research strategies for impactful creative non-fiction and life-writing.

Express your personal voice across creative platforms 

Next, you’ll shape your writing practice within contemporary culture. You’ll explore diverse creative forms and experiment with new ways to express your unique voice across digital and traditional media. 

You’ll examine the social and cultural forces that shape your role as a writer, helping you craft a writing style that is both informed and adaptable to shifting audiences and contexts.

Hone your writing skills across genres and mediums

By stage two, you’ll apply storytelling insights and creative expression as you collaboratively explore different writing genres and forms. You’ll do so by navigating writing for games, film, and TV, adapting your voice to the fast-paced, digital world. 

You’ll then shift your writing practice to travel, place, and nature, developing vivid storytelling techniques to capture themes of exploration and the environment. 

As you wrap up this stage, you’ll also gain writing techniques for poetry, theatre, and comedy, challenging you to disrupt traditional formats and resonate with a variety of audiences. 

Develop a creative writing portfolio with Falmouth University

Approaching the final stage of this course, you’ll hone your creative voice by diving into a genre of your choice and producing an innovative, multiform piece.

You’ll be assessed through a range of formative and summative assessments that support your writing development and gauge your process. You’ll receive ongoing feedback, participate in peer exchanges, and complete a variety of assignments (portfolios, pitches, presentations, journals, case studies, competition analysis, and a final major project) that put your writing, critical thinking, and reflective skills to the test.

Is this a part-time or full-time degree?

This accelerated online degree program offers flexible learning options for full- or part-time study. As a full-time student, you’ll complete your compulsory modules in two years, dedicating around 40-50 hours per week to your studies. 

If you prefer a schedule that accommodates your personal and professional commitments, you can opt for part-time study, which allows you to finish in three years, with a study commitment of approximately 27-33 hours per week.
