On this eight-week expert track from Federation University Australia, you’ll gain the skills and expertise you need to prepare for your next endurance event. Guided by an expert coach at Federation University Australia, you’ll cover key concepts in sports science and sports psychology to ensure you are training safely, successfully, and sustainably.
On the first course of the track, you’ll begin developing your own unique endurance training plan. Your coach will help tailor this plan to your needs and expectations as an amateur athlete or trainer.
You’ll review a wide range of training tools, methods, and approaches, identifying the strategies best suited to you and your goals.
You’ll also expand your knowledge of anatomy and physiology to help you optimise your plan and understand your body’s responses.
Once your training plan is underway, you’ll need to monitor its progress.
Course 2 will provide a comprehensive introduction to methods for collecting and analysing training data. You’ll learn how to track your fitness week by week and factor in the rest you need to achieve your goals.
Mental wellbeing and a positive mindset are crucial for sustainable endurance training.
In the third and final course of the track, you’ll be introduced to the fundamental principles of sports psychology.
You’ll be equipped with robust coping strategies to help you combat stress and fatigue, manage injuries, and build mental as well as physical resilience.
The focus of this course is on training safely and reducing the risk of overtraining or injury. You’ll investigate the importance of rest, recovery, and mental wellbeing as part of a sustainable training programme.
In the final week of the course, you’ll discuss how you can pass on your training to aspiring athletes of all ages. You’ll join a community of other amateur athletes and trainers, with whom you can share your progress, while exchanging advice and encouragement.
Throughout the course, you’ll be guided through a series of practice activities to support your understanding of the theory and assist you to apply it in practice. At the end of the expert track, you’ll earn a certificate confirming your expertise.
This is an introductory course drawing on practical examples from sporting organisations. It has a global focus and delivers transferable skills, which will be applicable to endurance training anywhere in the world.
The course material does not assume learners are currently training. To be eligible for the course, you simply need an interest in understanding all phases of endurance training, from creating a plan through to building resilience with sports psychology.
This course is designed for the amateur endurance athlete and/or the endurance trainer. In the interest of expanding representation in the endurance world, we invite learners of all different ages and genders to join the program.
The programme is designed to be accessible to everyone, and requires no prior knowledge. It will be as valuable for newcomers to endurance training as for more experienced amateur athletes hoping to hone their approach or mentor others.
